Resonance Health offers the following services to Radiology Centres:

  • FerriScan® – MRI Measurement of Liver Iron Concentration
  • Cardiac T2* - offered in conjunction with FerriScan to provide a complete overview of liver and heart iron loading
  • HepaFat-Scan® - MRI Measurement of Liver Fat

These services are charged per analysis basis only; there are no subscription or licence fees. Radiology Centres are not required to purchase any hardware or software.

The imaging protocols for FerriScan, Cardiac T2* and HepaFat-Scan can be established on most 1.5 Tesla scanners from Siemens, GE and Philips. The scans require no contrast agents.

The services are provided using our unique Quality Assured Service Delivery model.

Interested Radiology Centres are initially asked to submit a Scanner Details Form which enables an assessment of the suitability of their scanner for the relevant protocol(s).

Following verification that the scanner is suitable, a Service Agreement is established with the Radiology Centre or Hospital. An Instruction Manual is provided outlining all aspects of the analysis service.

For FerriScan a FerriScan Phantom Pack is required to be scanned to verify that the scanner protocol has been set up correctly. While there is no Phantom Pack for the Cardiac T2* or HepaFat-Scan protocols it is recommended that a test subject is scanned.

FerriScan Phantom Pack and/or subject test image data is transmitted via our secure web portal (FAST) for analysis at the quality assured Resonance Health Service Centre.

Following successful analysis of the Phantom Pack and/or subject test data, the Radiology Centre will receive confirmation that patient scanning may commence.

Establishment of the Resonance Health Services at a Radiology Centre

  • Scanner Details Form submitted to Resonance Health to assess scanner suitability for the relevant service(s)... Click Here
  • Service Agreement and Fee Schedule executed between the Radiology Centre or Hospital and Resonance Health. This does not oblige any scans be performed
  • FAST Access Form completed to gather details of staff authorised to access the secure web-based FAST system for image transfer, analysis tracking and downloading of results
  • Radiology Centre is set up in web-based FAST system
  • FerriScan Phantom Pack and/or MRI Centre Manual sent to Radiology Centre with imaging instructions
  • Radiology Centre establishes the relevant protocol on scanner and scans the Phantom Pack and/or a test subject
  • Radiology Centre sends Phantom and/or test subject data to Resonance Health to verify protocol setup. Annual re-validation of scanner via a Phantom Scan is required for FerriScan
  • Radiology Centre is officially notified that they may commence patient scanning

Technical Requirements for Acquiring FerriScan Images

FerriScan requires an approximately 10 minute scan using a single spin echo sequence.

The minimum Radiology Centre requirements for the acquisition of suitable data for FerriScan measurement are:

  • MRI scanner with a field strength of 1.5 Tesla
  • Single spin echo sequence with a minimum TE of 6.0 ms
  • A torso / chest / abdomen receiver coil
  • The ability to transfer images to a networked computer with an internet connection

Technical Requirements for Acquiring Cardiac T2* Images

Cardiac T2* requires a single breath hold scan using a multi gradient echo sequence.

The minimum Radiology Centre requirements for the acquisition of suitable data for Cardiac T2* measurement are:

  • Radiology Centre personnel with experience in acquiring cardiac images.
  • MRI scanner with a field strength of 1.5 Tesla and a cardiac MRI package that includes:
    • Radio Frequency coil suitable for acquiring cardiac images
    • ECG facility
    • Single breath-hold, multi-echo T2* sequence with:
      • Total of 8 echo times
      • Minimum TE between 2 and 3 ms
      • Maximum TE between 16 and 23 ms
  • The ability to transfer images to a networked computer with an internet connection

Technical Requirements for Acquiring HepaFat-Scan Images

HepaFat-Scan requires one to three single breath hold scans using a gradient echo sequence (the number of breath holds being dependent on the scanner model).

The minimum Radiology Centre requirements for the acquisition of suitable data for HepaFat-Scan measurement are:

  • MRI scanner with a field strength of 1.5 Tesla
  • Gradient echo sequence
  • A torso / chest / abdomen receiver coil
  • The ability to transfer images to a networked computer with an internet connection
