Clinical Studies
Resonance Health is working with doctors at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (Associate Professor Leon Adams) and Fremantle Hospital (Professor John Olynyk) to recruit patients in Perth for the following study:
IIRON: Impact of iron and insulin resistance on liver histology in non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of reducing the amount of iron in the liver. This could improve liver damage due to non-alcoholic steato-hepatitis, commonly referred to as ‘NASH’. NASH is caused by an abnormal amount of fat in your liver, and is a serious form of chronic liver disease that includes inflammation and liver cell injury leading to fibrosis, cirrhosis (liver scarring), liver failure and ultimately, death. NASH is a ‘silent’ liver disease that affects 2-5% of the population worldwide. Because most individuals with NASH feel well and are not aware that they have a liver problem until there is progression to cirrhosis and its complications, developing new treatment options and interventions are of paramount importance.
You may be suitable to take part in this study if you:
· Are aged 18-65 years
· Are overweight or have diabetes
· Have had abnormal liver function blood tests
