Phantom Verification and Calibration Devices

Our Phantoms are specially designed to allow verification of the correct MRI scanner configuration of each MRI centre for our services. In addition, we created the T1CMR Phantom, which provides correct T1 and ECV mapping standardisation and quality assurance of MRI scanners.

FerriScan® Phantom

The FerriScan® Phantom consists of a sealed pack of vials containing a range of standardised concentrations of manganese chloride (MnCl2) solution. It was designed to replicate the range of liver iron loading seen in clinical practice.

The FerriScan® Phantom is recommended for the MRI scanner initial setup (and compulsory as per clinical trial arrangement) to ensure the correct sequence settings have been used.

A FerriScan® Phantom Pack must be scanned by every MRI scanner during initial setup to ensure the correct sequence has been used and images are acquired correctly. This product is FDA Cleared, UKCA Marked, CE Marked and ARTG listed.

R2*/T2* Phantom

The R2*/T2* Phantom was designed for correct verification of scanner configuration for our Cardiac T2* and Spleen T2* service.

Cardiac iron loading can be assessed by MRI of Cardiac T2* (Cardiac T2* is globally recognised as the gold standard in the assessment of cardiac iron load via T2* measurement). As part of the clinical trial setup, it is requested that sites initially scan a R2*/T2* Phantom and submit the data to Resonance Health to verify the parameter settings and image quality.

The R2*/T2* Phantom provides correct verification of scanner configuration for our Spleen R2*/T2* service. As part of service setup, it is requested that sites initially scan a R2*/T2* Phantom using the Spleen R2*/T2* imaging protocol and submit the data to Resonance Health to verify the parameter settings and image quality before subject scanning commences. This product is FDA Cleared, UKCA Marked, CE Marked and ARTG listed.

T1CMR Phantom

The development of the T1CMR (T1MES) phantom was initiated and tested by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) centres around the world that were engaging in the T1 Mapping and ECV Standardisation (T1MES) Academic Programme (PMID: 27660042). The T1MES programme aimed to provide a roadmap for developing a quality assurance medical device system for T1 mapping, and has now been extensively validated and are in use in CMR centres across the world 1,2.

The development of the T2CMR phantom was using the collaboration and expertise gained through the T1MES programme to design a T2 mapping phantom that could be used interchangeably at both 1.5 T and 3 T, and that reflects clinically relevant native and post-GBCA T2 in myocardium across the spectrum of health and disease3. This product is FDA Cleared, UKCA Marked, CE Marked and ARTG listed

Resonance Health Analysis Services Pty Ltd (Resonance Health) is the sole manufacturer of the T1 and T2 CMR phantoms that are made-to-order products.

T2CMR Phantom

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) T2-mapping has the potential to provide key diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for myocardial inflammation. However, T2 varies by a lot of factors including scanner, software, and sequence, highlighting the need for standardisation and for a quality assurance system for T2-mapping in CMR.

The use of T2-mapping in clinical studies is burgeoning, but in the absence of a quality control system, single-centre findings are not generalizable, and longitudinal studies cannot reliably track alterations in T2 times reflecting the inflammatory state of the myocardium.

Using the collaboration and expertise gained through the T1MES (T1CMR) programme, a T2CMR (T2 mapping) phantom has been developed to be used interchangeably at both 1.5 T and 3 T, and that reflects clinically relevant native and post-GBCA (gadolinium-based contrast agents) T2 in myocardium across the spectrum of health and disease.

The T2CMR Phantom is for the verification of T2-mapping stability across different 1.5T and 3T scanners with an aim of delivering a “T2 standard”. This product is FDA Cleared, UKCA Marked, CE Marked and ARTG listed
